Cypress Semiconductor introduced PSoC®3, PSoC®4, and PSoC®5LP, the industry’s only PSoC programmable system-on-chip solutions that integrated configurable analog and digital peripherals, memory, and a microcontroller.

CY8C56LP Family Cypress microcontrollers is of the PSoC®5LP series and features a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M3 processor. It supports a wide supply operating range from 1.71 to 5.5V that allows operation from regulated supplies or directly from a wide range of battery types. The boost converter can be used to generate other voltages required by the device. As the boost’s output is available on the VBOOST pin, allowing other devices in the application to be powered from the PSoC.

The External Memory Interface (EMIF) it provided supports synchronous and asynchronous memories. CY8C56LP is only allowed to support one type of external memory device at a time.

In addition, the CY8C56LP family of devices contains four switched capacitor/continuous time (SC/CT) blocks. Each switched capacitor/continuous time block is built around a single rail-to-rail high bandwidth opamp. Switched capacitors are a circuit design technique that uses capacitors plus switches instead of resistors to create analog functions. These circuits work by opening and closing different switches to move charge between capacitors.

CY8C5667AXI-LP040 is one of the CY8C56LP family with an ARM® Cortex®-M3 core plus a DMA controller and digital filter processor. The Cortex-M3 is a low-power 32-bit three-stage pipelined Harvard architecture CPU that delivers 1.25 DMIPS/MHz. Based on that, it is suited for deeply embedded applications that require fast interrupt handling features.
